OURgrain named a Top 26 Startup by MassChallenge Boston. OURgrain competes for $1.5M in the Final Judging Round for the Accelerator.
Boston, September 19, 2018 - OURgrain, a food tech start-up that repurposes spent grain from breweries, was selected as a Top 26 startup in the MassChallenge Boston accelerator. In May, OURgrain was selected from over 1,600 applicants across industries and regions around the world to participate in the 2018 program that connects high potential startups to a network of mentors, support, and resources – all at zero cost and zero equity.
“Our goal is to end food waste, starting with the beer brewing industry,” said Jessie Pulling, CEO, “We rescue and recycle grain leftover from brewing beer, which totals about 10 million gallons each year just in New England. We redirect waste that was headed to the landfill and transform it into high fiber, high protein flour that can be used in both sweet and savory applications.”
Over the course of the four-month program, Pulling and her team have leveraged expert mentorship, tailored programming, corporate engagement, and industry resources to launch and grow the company. OURgrain will enter the final judging round, where they’ll compete for shares of $1.5M in equity-free prizes at the October 17th MassChallenge Awards.
“Our ultimate goal is to repurpose grain waste of all kinds across the food industry, using it to produce paper, fuel, biodegradable products, and more,” said Pulling
OURgrain is owned by a team of food scientists and product development chefs from Johnson & Wales University. The company embodies sustainability, constantly striving to reduce negative environmental impacts and redirect food waste from the landfill back into the food chain.
